Dr. Robert Weiss - "We've been having to mark the vein with the patient standing, because that's when the vein is bulging. but when a patient lies down, the vein is not bulging, it's very hard to see." But now there's a new option called transillumination. The hand-held device uses fiber optics to carry an intense halogen light to the skin. Varicose veins absord the red light and look dark. Dr. Robert Weiss - "Transillumination makes these veins visible, and therefore we can mark them and we can treat them." Debra Gregg - "The doctor could see exactly what he was looking for, exactly where to put the needle in. And that, I think it's, i think it's great." There are a variety of treatments for varicose veins. Debra's having her veins injected with an irritating solution that causes them to swell. Then, eventually they disappear.
