Adam's Story
A
story of pain and triumph from Macomb Township has captured
attention from around the world. Many people in that community
know the Rose Family and their son, Adam. The Internet is
now making the world aware of Adam's tremendous courage.
Macomb
Township's Don Rose is an award-winning website designer.
One site is a labor of love -- it tells the story of his son
Adam. While Adam deals with problems that make adults shiver,
his concerns are really like any other child's.
Adam
Rose was born on Valentine's Day 1994. Since that day, he
has known hardships that many don't ever experience. In March
1998, he was diagnosed with leukemia.
No
one was prepared for what happened just a few months after
that, not even the doctors treating Adam. A rare neurotoxic
reaction to a drug Adam took for leukemia left him paralyzed.
Don had to leave work to take care of Adam. His wife Lori
became the sole provider.
Don
turned to the Internet to research cures, but he also found
a kind of comfort on the Web. He started a journal - telling
Adam's story.
Don
bared his emotions, talking in detail about his family's pain.
But, over several months, the web site has turned into more
than therapy. It is a living tribute to the medical professional
who treated Adam. Don made the journal for family and friends
- but the site has had almost 14,000 visitors in the last
six months. People respond with e-mail, from places far away.
Some
tell the Rose Family that they find courage and strength from
Adam's web page. But Adam has other places to go on the computer.
Adam's
leukemia is in remission. The Roses use the Internet to search
for the latest treatments to Adam's paralysis and hope for
a treatment. The website won the best display for enthusiasm
in the Tripod great sites with Trellix Web Contest.
