The Proper Medicine Cabinet
Your medicine cabinet is stacked with pills, but there are
some should make sure are there and others you should check
twice.
As
a former registered nurse, Sandy Henson knows what she should
have in her family's medicine cabinet. There's regular pain
reliever, of course.
"I've
got nighttime pain reliever, Benadryl and Tums and I have
sinus problems so I get sinus stuff a lot," she said.
The
medicine cabinet for her three boys is also well-stocked and
there are more first aid items in the drawer.
"I still have a thermometer and I still have medicine cups,"
she said.
Family
Physician Dr. Farion Williams said the proper medicine cabinet
has a thermometer as well as a good selection of first aid
products, including bandages and gauze pads. Instruments that
are must-haves are tweezers for splinters and clippers for
cutting loose skin. Don't forget sunblock along and aloe vera.
Williams
said medicine cabinets should have an all-around antiseptic.
He also said you should throw out anything that's been in
the cabinet more than a year. Williams said people should
also make portable first aid kits for use when traveling.
