Eye
Tests
If you haven't been to the eye doctor in quite a while, you
may be missing out on much more than just learning your eyesight
is going bad. In fact, your eyes can be a window to detect
future disease.
On
the surface, Kimberley Burk's eyes look normal. After taking
our contrast sensitivity vision test, she realized they really
weren't.
"I
passed on my left, failed on my right," she says. "Ever since
I was born I've had a lazy eye."
Kimberley
is considered legally blind in one eye, but thanks to the
constant care of an opthamologist her eye condition has not
gotten any worse.
Opthamologist
Dr. Patrick Verb of St. John Hospital believes it's vital
to have your eyes examined not only as an infant, but on a
yearly basis as you get older. The reason is because your
eyes are a window to detect future disease.
"Glaucoma
can occur without us knowing it," he says.
Diabetes
and macular degeneration are two other diseases that can be
detected through an eye exam. Early detection saved Kimberley's
eyesight and this free vision test may do the same for you.
"It's amazing that they can judge so much with such a simple
little test when I go through screenings," Kimberely says.
