Blood
Pressure
William Beaumont Hospital needs people 18 and older with
high blood pressure to volunteer for two research studies
of new medications. All study-related health care is provided

Breast
Cancer
Postmenopausal women with an increased risk of developing
breast cancer can take part in a national research study at
William Beaumont Hospital that will compare the effectiveness
of two drugs in preventing breast cancer. Call 248-551-7695 for more information.
Brittle
Back Bone Fractures
William Beaumont Hospital is the only Michigan site participating
in a research study to test an experimental balloon technique
to treat painful fractured back bones that result from osteoporosis.
Research participants must have a compression fracture of
eight weeks or less duration that is due to osteoporosis in
the thoracic or lumbar area of he spine. They must be at least
40 years old. Participation is for two years. Call Dr. Eric

Cholesterol
William Beaumont Hospital's Division of Preventive and Nutritional
Medicine in Birmingham needs volunteers 18 and older with
high cholesterol for a research study on treating the condition
with diet or a diet-medication combination. All study-related
health care will be provided at no charged to volunteers and
participants will be compensated for their time and travel.

Diabetes
William Beaumont Hospital's Division of Preventive and Nutritional
Medicine in Birmingham needs people with diabetes for research
studies testing new oral medications to help lower their blood
sugar levels. Volunteers will receive study-related health
care without charge and will be compensated for their time

Incontinence
Volunteers can receive treatment for symptoms of urgent or
frequent urination as part of a new research study at William
Beaumont, Royal Oak. Researchers will study a new medication
which may control symptoms of "urge incontinence,"
which has symptoms of urgent and frequent urination. Study
volunteers must be at least 18 years old. All medications,
physical examinations and office visits are provided at no

Parkinson's
Disease
Doctors at William Beaumont Hospital are testing Comtan,
an approved drug, to determine if it extends the benefits
of levodopa treatment in people with Parkinson's disease.
Needed to participate in this research trial are people who
have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who are taking
no more than four doses of levodopa each day, and who are
not yet experiencing uncontrollable movements. Research subjects
must not be taking or have taken Comtan in the past. Call

Prostate Cancer
Beaumont is recruiting volunteers for the Selenium and Vitamin E Chemoprevention Trail. The research study, funded by the National Cancer Institute will includie more than 32,000 healthy men in North American and Puerto Rico to evaluate selenium. Call248-551-7695 for more.
