Alcoholics Anonymous – A Panel Discussion will be presented on Tuesday, April 22. This program will include a panel discussion about A.A. It is coordinated by Karen Echelbarger, BA, Dawn Farm therapist., and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. The Dawn Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed, FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding this devastating but treatable disease. All programs are free and open to anyone interested. Students, recovering individuals, people interested in recovery, family members and others affected by chemical dependency, people who work with chemically dependent individuals – ALL ARE WELCOME! All programs are presented from 7:30 to 9pm at the Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center, 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan. “Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do” is a free, ongoing, two-part community education program designed to help participants learn how to understand, identify and address adolescent alcohol/other drug problems. The series is presented on the first (part 1) and second (part 2) Tuesday evenings of each month from October – June, from 7:30 to 9 PM, at the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Education Center, 5305 Elliott Dr., Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Part 1 provides information on how to understand and recognize the signs of a teen substance abuse problem andincludes a short video. Part 2 provides information on what should and should not be done when a teen substance abuse problem is recognized.
Part 2 includes a recovering teen speaker. The workshops are presented by Ronald Harrison, SW. Ron is a social worker with 30 years of experience working in diverse settings with substance-involved teens and their families. He has presented numerous education and training programs on teen substance use, addiction and family issues. All presentations are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. It is presented by Herbert Malinoff, MD, and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. “Chemical Dependency and the Family” will be presented on Tuesday, March 25. This program will teach coping skills for the family members of addicts and alcoholics. It is presented by Karen Echelbarger, BA, Dawn Farm therapist, and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. APRIL Events

“Attitudes and Mental Health” will be presented on Tuesday, April 29. This program will describe the source or compulsion and delusion in chemical dependency. It is presented by Paul Shreiner, CAC, and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. The Dawn Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed, FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding this devastating but treatable disease.

MAY Events

“Domestic Violence and Addiction” will be presented on Tuesday, May 20. This program will describe how alcoholism and addiction can be treated concurrently. It is presented by Jason Schwartz, MSW, (Clinical Director, Dawn Farm,) and David Garvin, MSW, (Washtenaw County Catholic Social Services “Alternatives to Domestic Aggression” program,) and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. The Dawn Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed, FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding this devastating but treatable disease.

“Anxiety and Conflict” will be presented on Tuesday, May 27. This program will describe how addiction-related stress is experienced and can be dealt with in recovery. It is presented by Karen Echelbarger, BA, Dawn Farm therapist, and is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. The Dawn Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed, FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding this devastating but treatable disease.

JUNE Events

“Grief and Loss” will be presented on Tuesday, June 24. This program will describe how memories and feelings from the past can be resolved in recovery from addiction. It is presented by Karen Echelbarger, BA, Dawn Farm therapist, and is part of the Dawn Farm Community Education Series. The Dawn Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed, FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate, helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding this devastating but treatable disease.

“Progression of Codependency” will be presented on Tuesday, June 17. This program will describe the process of codependency, how codependency can sabotage recovery, and recovery from codependency. It is presented by Ronald Harrison, SW, chemical dependency therapist.
