Alcoholics Anonymous – A Panel Discussion will
be presented on Tuesday, April 22. This program will
include a panel discussion about A.A. It is coordinated
by Karen Echelbarger, BA, Dawn Farm therapist., and
is part of the Dawn Farm Education Series. The Dawn
Farm Community Education Series is a newly re-designed,
FREE annual workshop series developed to provide accurate,
helpful, hopeful, practical, current information about
chemical dependency and recovery, and dispel the myths
and misinformation surrounding this devastating but
treatable disease. All programs are free and open
to anyone interested. Students, recovering individuals,
people interested in recovery, family members and

“Teens
Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do” is a
free, ongoing, two-part community education program
designed to help participants learn how to understand,
identify and address adolescent alcohol/other drug
problems. The series is presented on the first (part
1) and second (part 2) Tuesday evenings of each month
from October – June, from 7:30 to 9 PM, at the Saint
Joseph Mercy Health System Education Center, 5305
Elliott Dr., Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Part 1 provides information on how to understand and
recognize the signs of a teen substance abuse problem
andincludes a short video. Part 2 provides information
on what should and should not be done when a teen
substance abuse problem is recognized.
Part 2 includes a recovering teen speaker. The workshops
are presented by Ronald Harrison, SW. Ron is a social
worker with 30 years of experience working in diverse
settings with substance-involved teens and their families.
He has presented numerous education and training programs
on teen substance use, addiction and family issues.
All presentations are free and open to the public.
Registration is not required. A certificate of attendance
can be provided. Free literature and resource information

skills for the family members of addicts and alcoholics.

“Domestic Violence and Addiction” will be presented
on Tuesday, May 20. This program will describe how
alcoholism and addiction can be treated concurrently.
It is presented by Jason Schwartz, MSW, (Clinical
Director, Dawn Farm,) and David Garvin, MSW, (Washtenaw
County Catholic Social Services “Alternatives to Domestic
Aggression” program,) and is part of the Dawn Farm

of Codependency” will be presented on Tuesday,
June 17. This program will describe the process of
codependency, how codependency can sabotage recovery,
and recovery from codependency. It is presented by
